Green lacewings (family Chrysopidae)
Most of the green lacewings can be identified alive in the field using a decent hand-lens (or more easily at home with a low-powered microscope). A minority of species may require sight of the tip of a male's abdomen or, rarely in Norfolk, close examination of their claws which can be difficult to achieve on a live specimen. However, details like vein hairs can be impossible to see in any but the very best quality photographs, so observers are advised to retain specimens until they have identified them rather than assuming an ID will be possible from a photo.
