Hemerobius humulinus

A very common species which mainly flies from April to September.

The presence of a recurrent humeral vein and 3-4 branches to the radial vein helps separate Hemerobius from Psectra and Micromus, and the position of veing RMCV (inside the fork of vein M) helps to rule out Wesmaelius. However, note that vein RMCV is often unpigmented in Hemerobius so you may need to look really carefully for this and it might not show up in photos.

As far as I know this species cannot be identified with certainty without seeing the tip of the abdomen. Although Hemeobius lutescens tends to have have less dark in the wing there is quite a bit of variation within both species. See the FSC AIDGAP guide (Plant, 1997) for details of how to separate humulinus from lutescens by the tip of their abdomens, but in due course I'll try to take some photos of the relevant bits and add them here.
