Great Oak Beauty Hypomecis roboraria
This species does not occur in Norfolk but when I saw this one in Sussex resting on a window above the moth trap I immediately suspected Great Oak Beauty - it was bigger than any Willow Beauty I had seen and did not look like a Pale Oak Beauty. I raced indoors to see what the underwing looked like and unfortunately at this point completely mis-remembered what the underwing of Great Oak Beauty was supposed to look like. Thinking it was wrong I ruled out Great Oak Beauty with some disappointment, and it was only when I returned home and checked the photos against references that I realised I was mistaken - it was a Great Oak Beauty after all!
