Euura proxima

Formerly known as Pontania proxima.

The single large White Willow growing at the Cathedral Meadows has proved to be a productive plant for locating galls of this sawfly. So far I haven't found any adults.

My willow identification skills aren't great and I wasn't sure which species of willow this was at the time. I think it must be White Willow though, or a Crack Willow hybrid perhaps. At least I think the leaves are too narrow for Almond Willow (which would make the gall Euura triandrae) or any of the sallows (Euura bridgmanii).

I *think* the willow these were on was Crack Willow Salix fragilis. The lower two photos are the same gall showing top and bottom.
