Schwenckfeldina carbonaria
I think this was the first fly I identified using the RES Handbook by Paul Freeman. The first challenge was establishing if the tiny hairs along vein M were big enough to be called macrotrichia. I suspected not but tried both ways - calling them macrotrichia led to a dead end. After that it was relatively straightforward to key, although I would have liked it to have been a male so I could have compared the style with the diagram in the key for added comfort.
