Delicate Yellow Splay Gonempeda flava

Both of these keyed to Gonempeda flava fairly straightforwardly using Stubbs, but although most of the description for that species matched up perfectly, the size did not. According to Stubbs - and Boardman in Shropshire Craneflies and also the old RES key - Gonempeda flave wing length should be about 5mm. My female was 3.9mm and the male 3.8mm. But it appears to be quite a distinctive species and it matched up in every other way, so I figured it must be the correct ID. I identified the female first, but when I examined the male I was able to compare the genitalia with images of male Gonempeda flava genitalia online, and this appears to confirm the ID as I can see no differences. It seems odd that both of mine were so much smaller than they're meant to be.

I missed that the wings were broad on this one (it's not that obvious to me) so skipped past this species in the key and hit a dead end. Fortunately I recognised the genitalia and fairly quickly realised where I'd gone wrong.
