Thistle Gall Fly Urophora cardui

I used the RES key to identify this. It seems the wing pattern is unique, though not very dissimilar to at least one congener.

I'd seen the gall before. This was during a fungal foray and I don't recall who pointed it out or if I noticed it myself. I ddidn't record what species of thistle it was on (maybe you can tell from the photo?).
