Chironomus plumosus
This was identified using Langton & Pinder. It was the first time I've used this key so I had some new terminology to learn, but once that was understood it keyed reasonably straightforwardly. The leg ratio was marginal (1.2) and it took me a couple of attempts to get the beard ratio correctly. The wing length was 6.6mm.

This was identified the same way, though this time I only checked the ratios visually without measuring them.
