Tachycixius pilosus

I confess to being a little confused by the character separating this species from Cixius spp. as described on the British Bugs website: "distinguished by the presence of dark spots between the veins at the tip of the forewing." Several photos of Cixius spp. showed dark spots in the membrane between the veins at the top of the forewing, so how was this different? I had misunderstood: the character is described differently in the 1960 RES Handbook by Walter le Quesne: "tubercles on apical margin between veins." So it's nothing to do with whether or not it has spots in the membrane, it refers to the often hair-bearing tubercles on the vein, i.e. the same kind of spots as there are all over the veins of the wing. It makes perfect sense in hindsight!

The smaller, paler individual was netted in flight and the larger darker one landed on someone's arm and was duly potted. The photos of each one's forewings are at the same scale.

I had seen this species once before - I think the first lacehopper I ever found.
