Tufted Vetch Aphid Aphis jacobaeae
There must have been thousands of these aphids in this meadow. They were on either Tufted Vetch or Fodder Vetch - the Norfolk Flora Group has since established that both grow in the meadow but I'm not sure which one they were on (apparently this species of aphid can occur on either). Although I set two specimens, an alate and an aptera, I didn't do a very good job of it so I haven't used these to key them out and am relied on combination of general appearance and foodplant. I have retained the preps if anyeone thinks it's necessary to check details, but having looked through all the species known to occur on vetches I don't see any other plausible alternatives.
