White-cheeked Pintail Anas bahamensis

This species is commonly found in captivity where it is often known as Bahama Pintail and where colour aberrations are common (typically where the plumage is entirely whitish, or paler than normal. In the wild the species is found in the West Indes and northern South America (nominate subspecies bahamensis), much of southern and central South America (subspecies rubirostris) and the Galapagos Islands (subspecies galapagensis). I'm not sure how easy it is to tell bahamensis from rubirostris (the latter is supposed to be larger and slightly brighter) so I am not sure if captive birds consist of one or both races. The Galapagos form is said to be smaller and duller with the white of the head and neck sullied grey.

I've not seen this species in its natural range but I have occasionally come across escaped (or perhaps deliberately released) birds in the wild in the UK.
