Laysan Duck Anas laysanensis

Sometimes known as Laysan Teal, this species is endemic to the Hawaiian island of Laysan. The species is also found as part of captive wildfowl collections. Some captive birds may have been affected by introgression with Mallards.

The following are all captive birds.

This individual has more white on the head than usual, but they are variable and I think this is probably within what one might call normal variation.

This odd bird appears to a variant that aviculturalists call "Ginger" Laysan Ducks. Although small, it didn't seem to me to be as small as Laysan Ducks normally are. We do not know how this variant is produced, but we suspect that it involves Mallard introgression at some point during its breeding.

This one was with a typical Laysan Duck but seems to be another of these so-called ginger variants.
