Ant Beetle Thanasimus formicarius
Known as Ant Beetles due to their mimicry of Velvet Ants. I think it's the commonest member of the family and the only one I've found so far.
This one was on a conifer trunk, found by torchlight at night.

Again, found on a tree trunk - Oak if I remember rightly though I didn't make a note of it.
