Mycetophagus quadripustulatus

At 5.0mm this was only just big enough to key it to quadripustulus but the other characters seemed to support this ID. It had come to light, found in my garden moth trap. Again the antennal club was barely existant and it wasn't easy to derermine which segments were supposed to be counted as part of the club and which weren't.

I had identified this species twice before, both long before I was attempting to identify many but the most distinctive beetles. I don't know what criteria I used to come to the ID but I suspect it may well have been picture-matching and probably didn't include keying the specimens properly. Nevertheless, I think the IDs are probably safe based on the overall appearance - let me know if you disagree.
