Hylesinus crenatus
I found this indoors. Once I'd figured out this was in the tribe Hylesinini it keyed very straightforwardly to Hylesinus crenatus, but getting it to tribe was (and remains) problematic. Duff's key to tribes of supertribe Hylestinitae provides three routes to tribe Hylesinini but I can't see how any of them apply to this beetle. Some members of the genus (e.g. Hylesinus varius which I'd identified immediately before examining this) get there on account of the pronotum and elytra being densely covered with appressed isodiametric scales, but that clearly wasn't the case here. Both the second and third routes to Hylesinini require the antennal club to be ±flattened and the elytral base clearly crenulate, neither of which I would say applied. I made it key to Hylesinini and then to Hylurgops palliatus, but I don't think it can be that species. Apart from that being smaller (up to 3.4mm - this was 4.3mm), photos of that species show more elongate parallel-sided elytra and a slightly different pronotum shape. Moreover all the photos I can find of Hylesinus crenatus look just like mine, and I think I would have had the same problems keying those to tribe as I did with this one.
