Agonum fuliginosum
My attempts to identify this can best be characterised as a catalogue of errors (in getting it to genus), but in the end I think the mistakes were all mine and not a reflection on either the Duff or Hackston keys that I used. Eventually, after numerous dead-ends I reached Agonum, and from there getting it to species was straightforward.
