Eyed Flat-backed Millipede Nanogona polydesmoides
I was surveying with Graham Moates when he found this under a log. It was very quick and easy to ID and would have been even quicker and easier had I not assumed that because it looked much like a smoother-backed Polydesmus, it would be in at least the same order as Polydesmus. After quickly reaching a dead-end there I went back to the top level key and quickly realised the presence of ocelli (and jowled cheeks?) pointed to a different order. At least the key and various other references - and even its scientific name - acknowledge that this species does indeed look like Polydesmus.
